Winegrapes aren't the only things that grow well in the Yakima Valley. While our family only grows grapes, plenty of our friends farm the fruits and vegetables that end up on your tables, and we're excited to see more women joining the ranks.
Megan Kinsey is one of them. A third generation farmer, she has grown pumpkins, squash, corn, hay, juice grapes, snap peas, and more. She sells her crops not just to processors and grocery stores around the country, but also to consumers in the Yakima Valley. Her peas are the best, and in case you missed the video we posted about them earlier this summer, you can still watch it. Join us for a look at some of the other things we grow so well in this area.
Her edamame are coming into season soon, so we use them in our hummus
recipe for the week. The pairing is Riesling, since it is Megan's
8/12: 2018 Riesling is Megan Kinsey's favorite wine, and since she is one of our favorite farmers, that is our pairing for the week. Megan is going to share her experience farming crops other than wine grapes in the Yakima Valley.
8/19: 2014 Carriage House is our pairing for Italian night! Hayley Black is an Italian wine specialist, ready to take us on a trip to find new wines in this familiar territory.
8/26: 2011 Côte Bonneville wraps up the summer as we visit the Côte Bonneville estate with current owner, Bobbi Blum.
For September and October, we'll be taking a break from our Happy Hours to focus on harvest and the wine club. Red Cab Franc will be coming out with the club shipments, so if you're not in a club yet, now's a great time to join. Stay tuned to social media and our YouTube channel for harvest updates, and we'll see you back on Zoom soon.
We're talking about the wine, food pairings, what's happening in the vineyard, and some Q&A. If you'd like a bottle to taste along, we are shipping online orders and have Happy Hour 3 packs with the wines for the upcoming weeks with $5 shipping. Live in the area? We're doing pickup by appointment and delivering to Yakima. If you miss it, replays are now available on YouTube. Get the downloadable Zoom backgrounds to be in the vineyard at all your meetings and calls.
